Welcome to our blog.
The children had a great week last week. Below are display pictures created by Mrs Harding's and Miss Pinto Edward's classes. Also pictures of a Maths lesson taking place in Year One.

Reading
Please can you make sure that your child is heard read at least three times a week and please put a comment in their diary. Reading is the key to everything at school. We can’t promise to respond everyday but we will throughout the week. Thank you for your support.

Homework
Homework was sent out last Thursday and we please ask you to return it on a Monday. We will be testing the children on their weekly spellings on a Friday. In year 2 the children should have received their login details for my maths and there are some activities set for them to complete over the rest of this term.

In year Two we are testing the children on their two times table. We are practising all the time using a 100 timetables that the children fill in each week trying to beat their previous score.Thank you for your support on this.

RE Families/Belonging
The children will be finishing the topic on Families and moving onto the topic BELONGING. The children will be thinking about different things that they belong to. They will be designing a class badge and thinking about how they feel about belonging to a group.

Phonics
A few helpful sites.

English Blog for Year 1 / 2
The children will be reading the story “Aliens love Underpants”

We will be investigate the rhyming in the story and looking at the spelling patterns for each pair of rhyming words.

The children will write a sentence about their aliens expanding noun phrases but using commas in a list.

For example:
My alien has green slimy skin, blue sparkly eyes and a body with black fur.
The children will be focusing on the following questions during their reading session.
Can I talk about my favourite words and phrases in stories and poems?
Can I answer and ask questions?
Can I make predictions based on what I have read?

Mrs Sarsfield
English
This week we will be using Autumn as a focus to write poetry using lots of describing words and phrases. We will also continue improving our handwriting and the reading and writing of the high frequency words.

Maths
This week we will be counting in 2's - conkers, acorns and leaves. We will  use conkers as a unit to compare weights of objects using a balance. Eg find an object that weighs less than 15 conkers.

Year 2 English
This week we will be learning about contractions like can’t, wont, mightn’t and we will also be practising our handwriting and completing a comprehension. Our writing this week will focus on writing poetry. We will be taking an autumn walk and using our senses to think about the autumnal leaves and colours.

Year 2 Maths
The children will be adding and subtracting numbers mentally including 2 digit numbers and adding together three one digit numbers.

We are starting to practise mental maths tests every week and also are completing a test with 100 timetables on. We are concentrating on x2 at the moment. The children did really well last week in their first try and some children managed to finish the whole lot

Topic

Last week we had fun acting out a journey to space. Using our imagination, we climbed into our rocket, fastened our seatbelts before taking off and explored the moon and planets.

This week we will be coming to the end of our topic work on Space and Famous Journeys. We have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the planets, the moon and the stars. We will be finishing off the topic by looking at the famous Neil Armstrong and his famous quote “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”.

We will also be finishing off our rockets so that they can go up on display in our classrooms!
