Monday 30th January


Welcome to our blog.

Homework

The children received homework again and have a set of spellings to learn.

There will be a spelling test every week. They have got a comprehension to do every week too as well as sentences or writing target depending on what they have been told in their homework book. Year 2 have my maths on line too and the passwords were sent out again last week.



RE

The children will be continuing with the  topic called SPECIAL PEOPLE. The children will thinking about the qualities that special people have. The children will be writing a prayer about special people. Next Tuesday we are going up to church in the afternoon to have a look at the inside of a church. Please return letters with permission slip and if you are available to walk up with us. Thank you.

English

This week we will be complete a reading comprehension and other reading activities including phonics. We will also focus on adding the ending ed onto verbs and review adding ing. We will also be reading Goldilocks and will be writing a letter to Goldilocks using capital letters, full stops and connecting words such as : and, but, so that.



Maths

In Maths we will continue focusing on pairs to 10 and 20 and using these to work out change from 10p and 20p. We will also be moving onto fractions of shapes - 1/2 and 1/4 starting with making pictures and cutting up shapes.



Year 1/2

English

This week we will be looking at the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We will start the week by reading the story and acting it out. We will be stepping into the role of the different characters and ‘hot-seating’ them to help us think about how the characters may be feeling. Towards the end of the week, we will be planning and writing an apology letter from Goldilocks to the Three Bears.

This week we will also be completing a reading comprehension based on Goldilocks and looking at compound words which will help us with our reading and spelling.



Maths

We will be looking at money this week. Children will be learning to recognise the different coins and their values and start to add them up to make different amounts.

We will also be thinking about different ways of making certain amounts for example, we can make £1 with 100 1ps, 10 10ps, 2 50ps etc.

Y2 children will be extended to looking at notes and values above £2.

Year 2 English



This week we will be writing silly sentences concentrating on connectives. This week we will be REPORT writing on elephants.The children really enjoyed writing about dinosaurs last week. The children will be learning all about elephants this week and writing a report at the end of the week. The children will also be doing a comprehension and practising their handwriting.



Maths

This week we will reviewing addition still. We will be adding using columns again, partitioning numbers, writing numbers in words and ordering numbers up to 500. The children will be completing a mental maths test and a timetables test too.



Topic

We are still exploring our topic of ‘The Carnival of Animals’ through music and art. This week we will be finding out about animals that live in the sea.

RE

The children will be continuing with the  topic called SPECIAL PEOPLE. The children will be thinking about what happens at Mass, the people who work in the parish and what the inside of a church looks like.

English
This week we will be learning how to read and write verbs with ing on the end. We will also be breaking the story of Cinderella into a beginning, middle and end and re-writing the story to include some elements of all 3 parts. We will be editing our own work to check it makes sense and has spaces in between words. We will also be completing reading and phonics activities as well as handwriting.


Maths
This week we will be continuing with some money and shopping activities as well as continuing to  learn to recognize all the coins. We will then be using pairs to 10 to help learn the pairs to 20 off by heart. For example 3 + 7 = 10, so 13 + 7 = 20, or 3 + 17 = 20.

Year 1/2 English
Maths

This week in our maths lessons, we will be learning to tell the time. Y1 will be focusing on o’clock and half past. Y2 will be revising o’clock and half past, before moving on to quarter past and quarter to. It would be helpful if you could revise the analogue clock with them and discuss typical times for things such as breakfast, tea time and bedtime. You could discuss the basic features of a clock such as the hour hand and the minute hand and how they move around in a clockwise direction.


English
This week we will be looking at Cinderella. We will start the week by listening to the story of Cinderella, completing a Cinderella themed comprehension activity and sequencing the story in groups. We will be retelling the story in our own words and looking closely at the characters. We will be looking at the prefix ‘-un’ to come up with words to describe the characters such as ‘unhappy’, ‘untidy’, ‘unfair’ and revising expanded noun phrases.

Year 2 English
This week we need to review past and present tense again the children really struggled with it so we are visiting it again.

This week we will be REPORT writing on DINOSAURS. The children really enjoyed writing about bees last week. The children will be learning all about dinosaurs this week and writing a report at the end of the week. The children will also be doing a comprehension.



Maths

This week we will reviewing addition. We will be adding using columns, adding numbers to make a hundred and practising adding 9 to numbers too.

The children will be completing a mental maths test and a timetables test too.



Topic

We are still exploring our topic of ‘The Carnival of Animals’ through music and art. Last week we had a great time creating pictures based on the African Savannah. We used oil pastels on a painted background to draw elephants, lions, rhinos and giraffes. Just some of the animals from the music we have listened to!

This week we will be looking at the section based on kangaroos. We will be looking at Australian animals and creating aboriginal finger dot paintings of these animals.

Cinema night
There is a cinema night on Tuesday and the children need o buy a ticket beforehand. Please make sure that children are picked up by five o clock. Thank you.

RE SPECIAL PEOPLE
The children will be thinking about special people in their lives and special people in our community. We will also be thinking about special people who spread God’s word.

English
This week will be reading the story of the Snow Dragon and will be exploring adjectives to describe the dragon. We will be re-writing the story in 3 parts :a beginning, a middle, an end. We will also be completing a comprehension focusing on retrieving facts and predicting. Improving reading, phonics and handwriting will be a focus as well.
Maths
This week we will be concentrating on money: learning the value of all the coins, making given amounts in several ways, and completing shopping activities and challenges.

Year 1 and 2
English
This week we will be looking at adding extra information to our sentences, using conjunctions ‘because’, ‘that’, ‘if’ and ‘when’. We will start by looking at clauses and examples of these conjunctions being used. 

Y1 children will recap last week’s learning, using ‘and’ to join two sentences together, before moving on to using ‘because’.
Children will also complete a reading comprehension.

Maths
This week we will be recapping our work from last week on multiplication, before moving on to division. We will be looking at division by sharing and grouping.

Year 2
Can the children recognise, find, name and write fractions 1/3, 1/4, 2/4, 1/2, 3/4 of a shape, length, set of objects or a quantity?
 

We will be starting to look at 1/2, 1/4 and 3/4 of a shape. Can the children find anything at home that they can halve or quarter?  Maybe a piece of bread, pizza or biscuit.



Year 2 English
This week we will be learning all about bees and will be writing a report about them. We will  be reviewing exclamation marks and completing a comprehension too.


Year 2 Maths
The children will be continuing with fractions and moving onto subtraction using a number line. We will be finding out how to find out fractions of numbers and counting up to ten in fractions such as 1 /4, 2 / 4, 3 /4, 1 etc.


My Maths homework is on line and the passwords have been given out again last week.

We will also be practising our timetables and completing a mental Maths test.

Topic
We will be continuing our topic ‘Carnival of the Animals’. Last week we listened to the music carefully and discussed the different animals that are represented throughout the music.

Pantomime
We are off to the Brindley theatre on Thursday morning. There will be AN EARLY REGISTRATION at 8.30am. The gates will open at quarter past. Please spread the word.

Parent helpers
We really need parents or grandparents to come in and help us especially with reading. Ig you are available in the mornings all except Monday for half an hour please let us know. We would love to hear from

Maths
This week we will continue to learn to tell the time- o'clock and half past in analogue and digital formats. We will also be learning to order and spell the months of the year, and review the names of all the 2d and 3d shapes.

English
In English we continue to develop reading and phonic skills. We will develop the use of capital letters, full stops and leaving spaces in between words. We will also be writing about our trip to the pantomime, using capital letters, full stops, spaces and some connectives- and, also.

Year 1/2 English
This week we will be looking at sentences and how we can extend our sentences. Year 2 will be looking at joining sentences using ‘and’, ‘but’ and ‘or’ to improve our writing. These are called co-ordinating conjunctions! Year 1 children will be joining sentences using ‘and’.
Year 2 children will also complete a reading comprehension activity on Winter Weather. 
The children will be introduced to the topic of Polar Bears. They will watch a video clip from the National Geographic to look at the main features. 

We will discuss the facts and how interesting they are.
Towards the end of the week the children will be looking at these key questions about polar bears.

Maths
This week children will be focusing on multiplication and division. 
Year 1 children will be using concrete objects such as counters to solve multiplication problems and will practically be able to show ‘two lots of’ then ‘three lots of’, etc. Later in the week we will move on to division and link the term ‘sharing’ with division. 
Year 2 children will be recapping counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and looking at the X sign and how it represents multiplication. Children will be looking at how to write ‘5 lots of 3’ as a multiplication sum. Year 2 English

This week we will be getting back to normal and we will be reviewing past and present tense.
We will be completing a reading comprehension too.

This week we will definitely starting to read the story of the hare and the tortoise. The children will learn the story briefly and complete a cold task by writing it out. On Friday they will write down a hot task when they have learnt the story off by heart and completed lots of speaking and listening activities.

Maths
This week we will be completing some more work on fractions. We will be reviewing fractions of shapes. Then will be counting up to ten in fractions. By the end of the week we will be finding fractions of numbers. We will be moving onto subtraction again using number lines too. Every Friday we will be having a timetables test and will be completing a speed arithmetic test as well as a mental maths test.

Topic
This week we will be looking at seasonal change and what happens in Winter. We will be thinking about the seasons and how winter is different to Autumn. We will be thinking about the activities might we like to do in winter and the different celebrations in winter. 

We will also be introducing out new topic for the half term which is based on the piece of music ‘Carnival of the Animals’ by Camille Saint-Seans. This week we will be listening to the piece of music, before starting work on the new topic next week.
