Welcome to our blog.
The children had a great time on Friday doing the activities linked
to Red Nose day. The school raised over £400 pounds and the final amount will
be calculated.
Some pictures from our measurement week.
Homework
The children have homework
again and will have a set of new spellings to learn.
The Year 2 spellings
this term are based on Year 2 National Curriculum spelling ending and the
common exception words that the Year 2 must use in their independent writing.
We have also sent a year
2 Maths booklet and we would like three pages a week completed and please can
we have this back on Mondays so the children and the teachers can mark it together.
There will be a spelling
test every week. Year 2 have been playing spell well too to help learn their
spellings.
They have got a
comprehension to do every week too as well as sentences or writing target
depending on what they have been told in their homework book. Thank you for all
your support.
Reading
The children need to
read at home at least three times a week. The children need to be heard read
even if they are a free reader please.
It really helps them if
you can talk about the book and ask them why something is happening or how
something is happening as well as about the story or information itself. We
find that the children who read at home make more progress than those who do
not.
The Year 2 have to read 90 words a minute with a familiar text.
Thank you for your
support.
RE
The children will be starting
a new topic on CHANGE.
This week the children will
be thinking about different things that change and also how they change as they grow up in appearance and what they
can do. We will be planting seeds too and watching beans as they change in
their growth. The children will also be writing about their favourite season.
Phonics
Please remember that the Year 1 have a phonics test in June
and any Year 2 who didn’t achieve the expected level in Year 1 will resit in at
the same time. The children have to read 32 words which include some alien
words that are made up.

English
This week we are focusing on writing. We will be completing a dictation including high frequency words and some spellings from previous homework tasks. We will also be using the book 'Stick Man' to stimulate writing a letter and will be re-writing the story. We will also be completing reading and phonics activities.
Maths
In Maths we will be continuing to complete tasks based on position and direction, using the terms quarter and half turn, clockwise. we will also be starting division, using the terms share, divide, group and will introduce the division sign.
Year 1/2
Whilst Year 2 are completing assessments this week, Year 1 children
will be working on their phonics, reviewing all of the sounds that we have
learnt so far and will be practising reading these sounds in words, both real
and alien words. We will be playing lots of fun, engaging phonics games.
We will also be looking at spelling and reading words that ends in a
‘y’ but makes the ‘ee’ sound such as very, busy, bunny etc.
Children will also complete guided reading sessions.
In Maths, we will be looking at sequencing intervals throughout the
day, days of the week and months of the year.
Year 2
This week there will be a focus on an assessment week
and the year two will have opportunity to practise some more sats. They really
enjoyed doing it last time. We have been going through the 2016 sats too and
finding out how to do things we couldn’t do.
The children will be doing a:
Maths arithmetic paper
Maths reasoning paper
Grammar test
Spelling test
Reading papers 1 and 2.
We will also be learning to use the conjunctions and, but, so, when, because
etc in our writing. We will be reviewing nouns, adverbs and verbs.
Every
week the children do two guided reading sessions one with non fiction and the
other with fiction books. Children are also heard read at other time too.
Topic
In
our topic lesson this week we will be planting sunflower seeds and beans. We
will be looking at the various factors that help them to grow such as light and
water. We will also be writing instructions on ‘how to plant sunflower seeds’.
Best wishes
