Monday 24th April

Welcome to our blog.

Welcome back we all hope you had a great Easter. The children had a great time with the Easter bonnet competition. We celebrated the Last Supper with the washing of the feet service with the Infant children.

This term we welcome an interim head teacher Mrs Denton formerly of Lunts Heath Primary school. I am sure we will all make her feel very welcome.

RE

We will be starting a new topic on HOLIDAYS AND HOLY DAYS. We will be thinking about what we mean about holidays and how they make us feel. What sort of holidays do we have? Do we go away?

Homework

The children had special homework to complete over the holidays with practice sats for the year 2. Please can you make sure this is sent back in this week.

Phonics

Please remember that the Year 1 have a phonics test in June and any Year 2 who didn’t achieve the expected level in Year 1 will resit in at the same time. The children have to read 32 words which include some alien words that are made up.

English

This week we will be focusing on the book 'Aliens love underpants'. We will be mapping out the story and re-write the story including some changes. We will also be linking this with creating alien words in phonics and designing our own aliens in Art. We will also be completing dictation, phonics and reading activities.

Maths

In Maths we will be adding 3 and 4 digits, by looking for pairs to 10 or 20 and doubles first. We will also be completing some reasoning activities and adding multiples of 10. We will also be counting in 2's, 5's and 10's and will be beginning to count in 3's.

Year 1/2

English

For the next two weeks we will be focusing on the theme of 'Pirates'. We will be looking at character and writing character descriptions of a pirate. We will also be role playing being a pirate and being on board a pirate ship! This will then inspire our story writing and we will be producing a non-chronological report about pirates.

We will also complete reading comprehension activities, phonics and grammar work.

Maths

In our maths lessons this week we will be learning about position and direction. We will be learning our left and right and clockwise and anti-clockwise. Please help your child with these at home too. We will also be looking at sequences and patterns of colour and shape. Year 2 children will go on to complete reasoning questions based on these topics and Year 1 children will be looking at sequencing events of time in a chronological order. E.g. I eat my tea BEFORE I go to bed.

We will also be completing phonics and guided reading activities.

Year 2

English

The children will reading the book Dear Greenpeace and will be learning all about whales and conservation. They will be writing a report and will be learning about contractions such as can’t, won’t and didn’t etc.

 Maths

We will be learning and reviewing some of the things that the children got wrong in their sats tests last week.

The children will be practising counting from any number. The children will also be reviewing adding and subtracting in columns.

Science

In our science lessons, we will be looking at exercise and what we can do in a minute. We will be using sandtimers to explore how long a minute is.

We will be reviewing parts of a plant and thinking about the life cycle of a plant.

Geography

In geography this week we will be looking at the UK and the four countries in the UK again as well as learning all the capital cities by heart. We will be labelling a map too.

Best wishes
