Monday 19th October


Welcome to this week’s blog.

Homework

The children won’t be having homework this week as it is the last week of the half term.

Please remember that we have parent’s evenings on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday this week and you should have received a time slot for an appointment with the class teacher.

RE
This week we will be continuing our topic SIGNS AND SYMBOLS. We will be exploring the sacrament of Baptism and will be learning about the symbols contained in the sacrament.

Maths Year 2 Mrs Harding
Year 2 we will be learning about ordinal numbers- first, second etc.

The children will also be practising adding two digit numbers to one digit numbers. We will also be learning ten more and ten less, one more and one less using a 100 square.



English Year 2 Mrs Harding
This week the children will be learning about the features of poetry. They will be going for an autumn walk around the school and using their senses to develop ideas to help them to write an autumn poem.

The children will be reading different poems and learning about poems that rhyme and don’t rhyme.

English
The children will be continuing on the Poetry theme and looking at a variety of poems which have patterns. They will be trying to learn a poem by heart and looking at rhyme and repeated line endings.

Maths
The children will be starting to learn their doubles to 20 and related halves. They will also be starting to share numbers to 10 to find which are even/odd. The children have been assessed on their knowledge of the days of the week and we will be reviewing this too. We will be asking the children the following questions:

How many days in a week?
How many days begin with S?
How many days begin with T?
What days is the weekend on?
What days do you go to school?
How many months in a year?
What is the last month?

 Maths
Engllsh Year 1
In English we are still focusing on reading and writing high frequency and tricky words. Also we will be composing Autumn phrases to create an Autumn poem, and learning a simple Autumn poem to recite.

Maths Year 1
In Maths this week we are focusing on 2d shape;  naming 2d shapes, sorting shapes using Carroll and Venn diagrams, and finding the line of symmetry on 2d shapes.

Phonics
This week we will revisiting and reviewing graphemes ear, air, ure, er,
We will be also reviewing constantly the meaning of  phonemes, graphemes and digraphs.
The year two children will be working on phase five graphemes: EW, WH, AW, OE, AU, EY.
The children will say, write it sound it with all the activities. They will write down words with the phonemes in and play games related to all the learning.

Topic
This week the children will learn about keeping fit and healthy.  We will talk why exercise is important for our muscles, bones, heart and mind.

Children will find out how exercise affects our bodies and we will find out our favourite ways of doing exercise!
