Monday 5th October


Welcome to this week’s blog.
Homework
The children were given homework again and this is due in on Monday please so it can be marked ready to go back out.

RE

This week we will be starting new topic SIGNS AND SYMBOLS. We will be exploring the signs and symbols we see every day and will be listening to a story and recognising the signs and symbols in a story about a wedding.
Maths Year 2 Mrs Harding
Year 2 will be learning all about 2d shape and lines of symmetry. They will be also learning about right angles.


English Year 2 Mrs Harding
This week the children will be starting to read the Worst witch and our work will be related to this. We will be learning about setting and  character. We will also be recognising and writing adverbs.

English Mrs Sheerin/Mrs Pinto

This week the children will be learning about the features of a non-fiction book. They will be reading a book about orang-utans and learning facts about them. We will be composing questions about what makes a good pet.
Maths Mrs Pinto/Mrs Sheerin
The children will be working on subtraction this week. We will be focusing on using out knowledge of pairs to ten to find the next ten. Can the children highlight the 10’a on the 100 square that they have taken home. They will be taking 1 and 2 away from a given number. E.g. Take 1 way from 34?

Engllsh Year 1

This week in English there will be a focus on reading and spelling high frequency and tricky words. Also we are focusing on sentence structure;orally planning a sentence before writing,  using capital letters and full stops and leaving a space in between words.
Finally re-reading to check our sentence makes sense. We will be using the book Class Two at the Zoo as a focus for writing sentences.

 Maths Year 1
In Maths this week we will remain focused on learning our pairs to 10 and will be extending this by staring with 10 and subtracting a unit, and also completing missing number sums to 10. We will also be moving onto doubling the numbers up to 10.

English Year 2
The children will continue to read traditional tales. The children will be reading ‘The worst witch.’
They will be learning what a setting is and will be writing and drawing about a setting. They will also be using adverbs to describe some of the characters in the book.

 Phonics

This week we will revisiting and reviewing graphemes igh, oa, oo and ,igh. We will be also be reviewing phonemes and digraphs. Ask your child what a digraph is! The children will be singing an alphabet song. The children will say, write it sound it with all the activities. They will write down words with the phonemes in and play games related to all the learning. Year 2 will also be moving onto phase four graphemes.

Topic
This week the children will learn that one thing a human needs to survive is a balanced diet.  Discussion will be based on food groups and what each type of food is needed for.
The children will get to draw their own representation of a balanced diet!  We will also carry out a class survey on our favourite drinks, which will allow us to collect data and create pictograms and bar charts with the results.  Lots of science and maths work this week!
