Welcome
to a new week. Homework was sent out again last week and we need it back in on Tuesday
so it can be marked and given back by Thursday. Year 2 have my Maths exercises
too.
We had an exciting week last week and had lots of activities and learning happening. Talk for writing is really helping the children and Year 1 had a great time making 3d shapes.
Year 2
Will be completing
some practice sats tests too in reading and Maths.
RE
We will
be continuing with a new topic in RE called SPREAD THE WORD.
The children
will be listening to the story of Pentecost and
learning about the gift of the Holy Spirit. We will be taking a walk around
school and noting signs of new life. The children will also be learning about
the Ascension into heaven
Maths
Year 2
This
week we will be reviewing topics that we have noticed the children need reinforcement
with.
We
will be learning more about right angles, multiplication using repeated
addition and fractions of shapes and
numbers.
We will
be completing a mental maths test too.
We will
be testing the children on their x 2, x 3
x5, x10 tables. Some children are completing tests with both
multiplication and division on them too.
Please
make sure that your child has instant recall of these timetables.
English
This week we will be basing all our work around poetry and will be
learning the poem about the JUMBLIES.
The children will be making up actions, making a story map of
the poem and then they will be making up another few verse of the poem.

children will be completing a comprehension too.
We
are busy testing the exception words all the time.Phonics
Year 1 and 2 will be continuing with phase five and learning phonemes with alternative sounds. Year 2 will be working through phase six.
We will be concentrating on number work again this week. The children will be practising counting in 2's, 3's, 5's and 10's from any given number. They will also be introduced to column addition and subtraction. This involves carrying and exchanging tens which are difficult concepts for children to grasp so please encourage your children to practise at home.

In Grammar this week
the children will be reviewing conjunctions, why we use them and the different
types of conjunctions we can use to make our sentences more interesting. They
will also be completing a reading comprehension.
The children will be writing instructions this week and looking and
bossy verbs(imperative verbs) The children will learn word such as cut,
paste, eat, drink, take, read, place, spread and push.
We will also be looking at language such as first, second, third, fourth and last to place the instructions in an order. We will be looking at numbering instructions to make them easier to read.
The children will be making toast and sandwiches so that they can write about them from first hand experience.
Can the children find any instructions at home and bring them in to share with the class. For example: instructions on how to play a game.
Phonics the children will be tested on their knowledge of alternative pronunciations this week. Can they also continue to learn the common exception words in their diaries.

Year 1Maths
This week in Maths we will be dividing numbers using arrays, by sharing into groups - drawing rings around groups of numbers and counting how many groups. We will also be reviewing the names and features of 3d shapes and continuing to count in 2's 5's and 10's, and count on and back in 10's.

This week in English we will be reviewing plurals by adding s and es. We will also be continuing to find out about L S Lowry and write an autobiography. We will continue to develop our reading skills by completing a comprehension and will be continuing to review and extend our phonics skills.
Topic
This week in Topic we will be
focusing on streets in the industrial Victorian era. We will study the work of
L S Lowry in order to guide our understanding and will be drawing streets in
the style of Lowry. We will also be finding out about his life and writing an
