Monday 24th April


Welcome to our blog.

Welcome back we all hope you had a great Easter. The children had a great time with the Easter bonnet competition. We celebrated the Last Supper with the washing of the feet service with the Infant children.





This term we welcome an interim head teacher Mrs Denton formerly of Lunts Heath Primary school. I am sure we will all make her feel very welcome.

RE

We will be starting a new topic on HOLIDAYS AND HOLY DAYS. We will be thinking about what we mean about holidays and how they make us feel. What sort of holidays do we have? Do we go away?



Homework

The children had special homework to complete over the holidays with practice sats for the year 2. Please can you make sure this is sent back in this week.



Phonics

Please remember that the Year 1 have a phonics test in June and any Year 2 who didn’t achieve the expected level in Year 1 will resit in at the same time. The children have to read 32 words which include some alien words that are made up.

English

This week we will be focusing on the book 'Aliens love underpants'. We will be mapping out the story and re-write the story including some changes. We will also be linking this with creating alien words in phonics and designing our own aliens in Art. We will also be completing dictation, phonics and reading activities.



Maths

In Maths we will be adding 3 and 4 digits, by looking for pairs to 10 or 20 and doubles first. We will also be completing some reasoning activities and adding multiples of 10. We will also be counting in 2's, 5's and 10's and will be beginning to count in 3's.



Year 1/2

English 

For the next two weeks we will be focusing on the theme of 'Pirates'. We will be looking at character and writing character descriptions of a pirate. We will also be role playing being a pirate and being on board a pirate ship! This will then inspire our story writing and we will be producing a non-chronological report about pirates.

We will also complete reading comprehension activities, phonics and grammar work. 

Maths

In our maths lessons this week we will be learning about position and direction. We will be learning our left and right and clockwise and anti-clockwise. Please help your child with these at home too. We will also be looking at sequences and patterns of colour and shape. Year 2 children will go on to complete reasoning questions based on these topics and Year 1 children will be looking at sequencing events of time in a chronological order. E.g. I eat my tea BEFORE I go to bed. 

We will also be completing phonics and guided reading activities.

Year 2

English

The children will reading the book Dear Greenpeace and will be learning all about whales and conservation. They will be writing a report and will be learning about contractions such as can’t, won’t and didn’t etc.

 Maths

We will be learning and reviewing some of the things that the children got wrong in their sats tests last week.

The children will be practising counting from any number. The children will also be reviewing adding and subtracting in columns.

Science

In our science lessons, we will be looking at exercise and what we can do in a minute. We will be using sandtimers to explore how long a minute is.

We will be reviewing parts of a plant and thinking about the life cycle of a plant.

Geography

In geography this week we will be looking at the UK and the four countries in the UK again as well as learning all the capital cities by heart. We will be labelling a map too.

Monday 10th April

Welcome to our blog.
Well we have made it to the end of a busy half term and we have only three days left.

Lots of things are happening though!
Monday Egg rolling - The children need to bring in a hard boiled, decorated egg for a traditional competition.
Wednesday 9.00 am Easter service led by year 4.
Wednesday - Easter bonnet competition.

Next half term
Please remember that the year 2 have sats next half term so please keep practising reading. We are sending some homework home over the holidays. these are practise sats.

Year 1 have a phonics screening test in June when they have to read real and unreal words. They have to read 32/ 40 words to pass. We have a few year 2 children who are resitting theirs too.

Tatten hall
The children had a fabulous time at Tatten hall and their behaviour was excellent throughout. Here are some really good photos.

Welcome to our blog.

Tattenhall residential

A final letter was sent out last week. Please remember to label every piece of clothing and to make sure the children know what’s in their bag or case. Remember it might get torn and it might get dirty. Please include a large plastic bag.

Any medicines please hand over staff on Thursday morning. We will collect the pocket money too. Again please make sure that this is labelled. If your child is bringing their own packed lunch please make sure it’s all disposable.

The children are really excited and I am sure we will have a great time.

Homework

The children have three pages of Maths, spellings to learn and sentences or other writing to complete too. Thank you for everyone who sends homework in on time.

Year 1

English

This week we will complete a comprehension and focus on verbs ending with ing. We will walk about school and list actions we can see and hear and list these with ing, eg singing, talking. We will then use these to write a poem about things we see and hear in school.



In Maths we will complete our work on directions and following instructions and will also complete a Maths number problem.



On Thursday and Friday Mrs Sarsfield will be going on the Tattenhall residential with Year 2. All the Year 1 children will be taught together and will complete work based on Super Heroes- designing own hero, writing stories.

Year 1/2

Maths

This week in our maths lessons we will be exploring measurement. We will be looking at how we measure capacity, temperature and length. We will be looking at both standard and non-standard units.



English

We will be writing stories and narratives this week on a range of different topics. We will be using the skills and features of narrative that we have learnt about such as time phrases, noun phrases, commas in a list and different sentence types.

We will also be completing phonics and guided reading activities.



Year 2

English

The children will be having three days of writing stories.

The children will also be reviewing plurals of words, adding suffixes to words and nouns, verbs and adverbs.

Every week the children do two guided reading sessions one with non fiction and the other with fiction books. Children are also heard read at other time too.



Maths

We will be learning and reviewing some of the things that the children got wrong in their sats tests last week.

The children will know:

Addition and multiplication can be done any way round and subtraction and division cannot.

The children will also be using the inverse to see if questions are correct.

40 + 45 = 85

85 – 40 = 45

80 – 45 = 40



Science

In our science lessons, we will be looking at exercise and what effect exercise has on our body. We will be learning about our heart rate and how this increases during exercise.

Geography

In geography this week we will be looking at the UK and the four countries in the UK.
