Welcome to our blog.

Tattenhall residential

A final letter was sent out last week. Please remember to label every piece of clothing and to make sure the children know what’s in their bag or case. Remember it might get torn and it might get dirty. Please include a large plastic bag.

Any medicines please hand over staff on Thursday morning. We will collect the pocket money too. Again please make sure that this is labelled. If your child is bringing their own packed lunch please make sure it’s all disposable.

The children are really excited and I am sure we will have a great time.

Homework

The children have three pages of Maths, spellings to learn and sentences or other writing to complete too. Thank you for everyone who sends homework in on time.

Phonics

Please remember that the Year 1 have a phonics test in June and any Year 2 who didn’t achieve the expected level in Year 1 will resit in at the same time. The children have to read 32 words which include some alien words that are made up.

Year 1

English

This week we will complete a comprehension and focus on verbs ending with ing. We will walk about school and list actions we can see and hear and list these with ing, eg singing, talking. We will then use these to write a poem about things we see and hear in school.

In Maths we will complete our work on directions and following instructions and will also complete a Maths number problem.

On Thursday and Friday Mrs Sarsfield will be going on the Tattenhall residential with Year 2. All the Year 1 children will be taught together and will complete work based on Super Heroes- designing own hero, writing stories.

Year 1/2

Maths

This week in our maths lessons we will be exploring measurement. We will be looking at how we measure capacity, temperature and length. We will be looking at both standard and non-standard units.

English

We will be writing stories and narratives this week on a range of different topics. We will be using the skills and features of narrative that we have learnt about such as time phrases, noun phrases, commas in a list and different sentence types.

We will also be completing phonics and guided reading activities.

Year 2

English

The children will be having three days of writing stories.

The children will also be reviewing plurals of words, adding suffixes to words and nouns, verbs and adverbs.

Every week the children do two guided reading sessions one with non fiction and the other with fiction books. Children are also heard read at other time too.

Maths

We will be learning and reviewing some of the things that the children got wrong in their sats tests last week.

The children will know:

Addition and multiplication can be done any way round and subtraction and division cannot.

The children will also be using the inverse to see if questions are correct.

40 + 45 = 85

85 – 40 = 45

80 – 45 = 40

Science

In our science lessons, we will be looking at exercise and what effect exercise has on our body. We will be learning about our heart rate and how this increases during exercise.

Geography

In geography this week we will be looking at the UK and the four countries in the UK.

Best wishes
