This week will be reading the story of the Snow Dragon and will be exploring adjectives to describe the dragon. We will be re-writing the story in 3 parts :a beginning, a middle, an end. We will also be completing a comprehension focusing on retrieving facts and predicting. Improving reading, phonics and handwriting will be a focus as well.
Maths
This week we will be concentrating on money: learning the value of all the coins, making given amounts in several ways, and completing shopping activities and challenges.

Year 1 and 2
English
This week we will be looking at adding extra information to our sentences, using conjunctions ‘because’, ‘that’, ‘if’ and ‘when’. We will start by looking at clauses and examples of these conjunctions being used.

Y1 children will recap last week’s learning, using ‘and’ to join two sentences together, before moving on to using ‘because’.
Children will also complete a reading comprehension.

Maths
This week we will be recapping our work from last week on multiplication, before moving on to division. We will be looking at division by sharing and grouping.

We will have a go, as a class, at completing word problems for both multiplication and division. http://www.topmarks.co.uk/Interactive.aspx?cat=13 http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks1/maths/division/play/

Topic
We will be continuing our topic ‘Carnival of the Animals’. Last week we listened to the music carefully and discussed the different animals that are represented throughout the music.
This week we will be focusing on African animals. We will be looking at the African savannah and finding out about the animals that live there. We will then go on to produce a silhouette picture of the African Savannah.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBGEf4urGNo
